Reflections on Be2camp Birmingham

Just attended the Be2camp Birmingham event (a big thanks and well done to the organizers). So just reflecting on the interesting stuff presented and the brief chats to a few fellow campers.

Its great to see so much passion & energy for all this new technology. Some ready for use straight away and other stuff at the bleeding edge.

Perhaps a non-technical strand to be2camp might be of value. To help turn our ideas into action that will deliver concrete results. Subjects might include influencing skills to and change management.

Over the next few days the Be2camp Brum page will be overhauled to include links to as much content from the day, as well as participants' feedback, etc. I've already created a photo album and added a link to some great blog posts by Adam Tinworth (an invaluable contribution, Adders - many thanks!), and will get round to chopping up any usable portions of the Ustream video shortly.

I think you make a good point about some of the soft skills needed. As well as introducing and developing social media abilities, we also need to look at how we can justify the introduction of Web 2.0 into the workplace (particularly in AEC firms which are often innately conservative and wary of new technologies) - ie: what are the business benefits, etc.

Thanks for the steer. Never did know where to put things!

The soft skills and change management theme is my field & I'm willing to contribute. For example: I might be able to facilitate assistance for a group of West Midlands based companies (50% funded) through my WMCCE delivery partner relationship. I'll give it a bit more thought and test the water.

There are also opportunities for early adopters to become demonstration projects that are a best practice reference.
